Terramycin (Oxytetracycline)
Drug Uses
Terramycin is a type of antibiotic called a tetracycline. It is used to treat infections with bacteria.
How Taken
Use Terramycin as directed by your doctor.
- Take Terramycin by mouth with food.
- If you have trouble swallowing the tablet whole, it may be crushed or chewed with a little water.
Drug Class and Mechanism
Terramycin works by interfering with the ability of bacteria to produce proteins that are essential to them. Without these proteins the bacteria cannot grow, multiply and increase in numbers. Terramycin therefore stops the spread of the infection and the remaining bacteria are killed by the immune system or eventually die.
Missed Dose
If you miss a dose of Terramycin and are taking it regularly, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.
Storage
Store Terramycin at room temperature, between 68 and 77 degrees F (20 and 25 degrees C). Store away from heat, moisture, and light. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep in a tight, light-resistant container. Keep Terramycin out of the reach of children and away from pets.
